July 29th is Nation Lasagna Day!

First, I cannot believe July is almost over…where did the summer go? Anyways, Happy National Lasagna Day!

I have great memories of my grandmom making lasagna for Sunday dinners as well as for every holiday.  Sure, it’s July. Its hot and humid. Cooking up a pan of lasagna will make the kitchen hotter but as it cooks, the smell will waft throughout the house. Your mouth will begin to water. When dinner time arrives, you will have a huge appetite for a huge piece of lasagna.

Lasagna is a favorite Italian dish. In between multiple layers of lasagna pasta are generous amounts of tomato sauce, cheeses, and sometimes hamburger and/or Italian sausage. Its the favorite Italian dish of millions of Americans.

I could eat pasta any time of the day but what about for dessert?

Thank you to VeggieTeens for these amazing “TV Dinner” cupcakes.  The peas and carrots on the cupcake are actually green runts and orange starburst cut into quarters! How creative!

Maybe chicken with mash potatoes and corn… the butter is a lemon starburst and the corn kernels are the bottom portion of candy corn! I Love These Cupcakes! Take a look at the link for all the little tips on how to make each one of these cupcakes.

How Large Is The Worlds Biggest Lasagna?

I’m not sure of the record for real lasagna but for a cake in the shape of lasagna, it’s 28 feet! Sweet E’s Bakery submitted their cake to the Guinness Book of World Records and hope to be a part of history in the very near future! The actual noodles and basil leaves were made out of fondant while the marinara sauce was made from red velvet cake, red frosting and red chocolate chunks. The melted cheese on top was made of fondant and chocolate which was airbrushed to look yellow. After 72 hours, the cake was complete weighing in at 150 pounds.

Until tomorrow, have a sweet night!

July 27th is Take Your Pants For A Walk Day!

Take Your Pants for a Walk Day is a great day to get some exercise.  This special day is well noted on the internet and calendar websites.  To be honest, I have never heard of the expression so this is a new holiday for me.

Its an easy day to celebrate. Simply go for a walk.  Give your pants some exercise!  While celebrating this holiday by walking, you will not have time to sit down and enjoy a nice lunch or even some dessert…so maybe you can bring it with you.

What’s better than food on a stick!  We can start with some good old fried foods…

Fried Mash Potatoes on a Stick

French Fries on a Stick

Hot Dog Wrapped in French Fries on a Stick

and the most strange…French Fries with Bacon on a Stick

So how about dessert?

Thanks to Good Eats ‘n Sweet Treats for sharing the recipe for these amazing cheesecake pops! They have chocolate dipped or cinnamon sugar dipped cake pops. I’ll have to try this for the next time my family is over for Sunday dinner.

My favorite dessert are these CakeShooters created by Sprinkles Custom Cakes.   They were featured in an article in Orlando Magazine – see below for the inspiration.

“Larry Bach, owner of Sprinkles Custom Cakes in Winter Park, has combined the cupcake craze and mini-dessert mania into a push pop treat made of alternating layers of cake and filling, then topped with frosting and sprinkles.

Bach got the idea for his Sprinkles CakeShooter at a confectioners’ convention when he spied plastic push-up containers designed to hold Italian gelato. “It’s a very easy thing to put cake in there,” he says, “and kids could eat them without a fork or spoon or even a napkin”—a real plus for his business because he’d recently lost several regular orders after some local schools banned messy cupcakes for birthday celebrations. Bach plans to patent his creation, which already has drawn a celebrity following. People magazine reported that actress Tori Spelling ordered pink-and-white CakeShooters for her daughter Stella’s second birthday celebration in California.

CakeShooters come in flavors such as yellow raspberry swirl, OMG (raspberry swirl and chocolate buttercream), Sprinkles Signature (vanilla cream and white icing), piña colada, chocolate and vanilla. Vegan and gluten-free options are available, and Bach also has made fruitcake, cheesecake and bread pudding shooters. They cost $3 each.”

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

July 26th is All or Nothing Day!

Happy All or Nothing DayHow will your day go? Will you have it all….or nothing. When thinking of what All or Nothing Day really means it is a day of extremes! Go Big or Go Home!

If you’re a gambler, it’s a day to go for broke. A little drastic day, perhaps!

This is one extreme gambling cake!  Look at all of that detail.  I would hate to be the person cut and serve at the party…it’s too beautiful to eat!

Have you ever googled…”extreme cakes”?

Well, I did this morning to find interesting cakes and cupcake images for this holiday.  Did you know the world’s largest cake weighs 15,032 pounds???  I wonder how long it took to make  …and decorate?

What about an over the top wedding cake?

Maybe a full size replica of the bride…

There is even a slideshow on CNN portraying thiscake on the day of the wedding!  There’s definitely no grey area in how you spend this day.

One of my favorite shows on the Food Network is Food Network Challenge and by far my favorite pastry chef and cake decorator is Bronwen Weber. Her cakes are amazing and truly an inspiration when I bake. The show always has an extreme twist thrown in…definitely an all or nothing competition.

We hope you have it all on All or Nothing Day, and every day.

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

So today is Thread the Needle Day and to be honest, I wasn’t too thrilled about this one.

Lately, I have been obsessing about my daughter’s first birthday party that we’ll have in the beginning of August.  I know first birthday parties are more for the parents, family, friends, and of course memories for her baby book.  I just want everything to be perfect and finally be able to use the products I have been creating over the past few months and create my own unique tablescape.

Birthday Girl, Grace!

The theme is going to be monkeys with pink and green polka dot decor.  I have always love these designs and feature them as one of our edible cupcake toppers.  Of course, we’ll have these as the edible cupcake toppers and printable toppers!  Also, we’re going to have a giant smash cupcake with a cake topper!  It’s funny because since Grace was a little, little baby we called her “monkey”.

Pink Mod Monkey Edible Cupcake Toppers

There is so much I want to do and be creative with…so far, we sent out the invitations and I think they look so cute!  I made these in Illustrator and used the monkey graphics from the edible topper designs.  Not too shabby 😉

This is what her birthday onesie will look like except with her name on it. It should be arriving shortly! I cannot wait to see how it turned out! Perhaps a matching tutu to complete the outfit?

Here’s some other ideas that I found that I would love to re-create myself and put a little twist on them to make them my own since it’s exciting to me to try some DIY party decor.

Paper Flower Pom-Poms

Giant Smash Cupcake

There are so many cute ideas I have found to try but there is only so much time to create all these! Better start some tonight…

I’ll post some photos of the birthday girl on her big day as well as the actual birthday party decor! Wish me luck!

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

July 23rd is National Hot Dog Day!

National Hot Dog Day celebrates one of America’s summer favorites. It is only fitting that this dog gets its day.

Its summertime. Hot dogs are center stage on the grill, and at picnics all across America. They are at the ballpark. They are sold from carts on street corners in every city.

BBQ Cupcakes

Thanks to YumSugar for a great recipe to make your own Hamburger and Hot Dog cupcakes.

We consume hundreds of millions of hot dogs on the Fourth of July alone. Did you know that at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest 62 hot dogs were consumed in 10 minutes by the winner, Joey Chestnut? Wow! I can barely finish two.

How many hot dogs do we eat?  Each year we buy over 837 million packages of hot dogs at retail outlets, and over 24 million hot dogs at baseball stadiums alone.

How about trying a Lazy Dogg?

Looks yummy, right? Well, the Lazy Dogg cupcake is a buttermilk-corn cake batter stuffed with a bacon wrapped hot dog, with a maple buttercream whipped frosting and topped with maple bacon bits!

Thanks to Sweet Spoonery for creating a cupcake perfect for National Hot Dog Day!

Until tomorrow, have a Sweet Day!

July 22nd is Hammock Day!

…ummmm, ok?

Summer is in full swing! It’s time to slow down and relax on a hammock. Maybe not today though since it is going to be 102 degrees in NJ! Maybe on a Caribbean beach instead!

I would LOVE this hammock in my backyard!

Hammock Day is appropriately celebrated right in the middle of the dog days of summer (July 3 though August 11th).

People celebrate Hammock Day by spending as much time relaxing on it as possible. Getting out of your hammock to get a snack, or your favorite summer beverage is okay. But, it is not a day for work. Cutting the lawn is forbidden on this day.

There are not many cakes or cupcakes that are inspired by a hammock…

…so I had to get creative and put a little twist on today’s holiday! When I’m in my hammock in the backyard, I like listening to music and having a drink (or two) to relax. I found some interesting and yummy cupcakes infused with alcohol that remind me of those drinks I enjoy in the hammock.

Pina Colada, Mojitos or maybe a Margarita cupcake?

Simple Yet So Yummy

I found a great recipe for Margarita cupcakes infused with Patrón Silver tequila. Great for your next party or making a batch to share with a few girlfriends on a Friday night. Thanks to Brown Eyed Baker for sharing the recipe.

Margarita Cupcakes – Love the Presentation!

These would be perfect at your next “Just the Girls” Party! Arrange a few of the cupcakes in the margarita glasses and then display the rest on a cupcake stand. Add some REAL margaritas, chips ‘n salsa to your table and you’re all set!

In case, you’re not sure how to make a margarita, here’s a simple recipe that uses orange juice to cut a little bit of the tartness. Sounds yummy!

Happy Hammock Day and I’m going to be enjoying my cupcakes and drinks from inside today!

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

Back to Junk Food Day…

To some people, every day is Junk Food Day. For the rest of us, National Junk Food Day is an opportunity to guiltlessly eat your favorite junk food.

Dietitians will tell you that junk food is any food that contains little nutritional value. We also include foods that are high in salts, fats, and sugars. In other words, junk food is all that tasty stuff that the dietitians, and Mom, consider to be bad for us.

On Junk Food Day, you get to eat anything you want. Eat any amounts that you want, too. Tomorrow, however, it’s back to a healthy diet.

I found a few interesting ways to use junk food, not only in cupcakes but also as gift ideas and even art! Take a look…

So how about a wedding cake made out of Hostess snacks. This couple definitely wins for the most creative wedding cake.  I want to be the person that gets a pink Sno Ball!

Need a creative gift idea? How about a Junk Food Gift Bouquet! This beats flowers any day! Easy DIY gift for your favorite snacker…or maybe a funny Father’s Day or Birthday gift?

Instead of making a Diaper Cake for your next family or friend’s baby shower…perhaps a Snickers Candy Cake? What pregnant woman would not want some chocolate! This is even a great idea for a kid’s party as a centerpiece and then the kids can take the candy to put in their goodie favor bag! To make the goodie bags even more personalize, you can use our Printables where you can create custom favor thank you tags for all the children!

Ok, so onto the cupcakes! Wouldn’t you love a Butterfinger or Almond Joy or even Peppermint Patty Inspired cupcake – yes, please! Check out all of these great recipes from Pardon My Crumbs to try out at your next party!

Would you like your portrait made of junk food? I guess Rosie O’Donnell did!

You won’t find a paintbrush in Jason Mecier’s studio. The mosaic portrait artist’s representations of famous faces — including Rosie O’Donnell, Rachael Ray, and Jerry Seinfeld — are made out of candy, potato chips, cookies, and other edible goodies.
