Today is the first day that it feels like fall. Yesterday was in the low 80s and right now it is only 54 degrees!

This time of year I love lighting a pumpkin spice or banana nut bread candle to make it smell like I’m actually baking ūüėČ ¬†But today, I’m going to make these delicious Pumpkin Cupcakes with a Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting to get the real smell through out the house!

The recipe can be found at Kraft Foods.

If these turn out as good as they sound, this could be a great alternative to pumpkin pie for dessert at Thanksgiving!

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

Happy Labor Day! ¬†We had a busy but great weekend with the highlight of a Barnyard Animal Themed Party! ¬†We went to visit my cousin for her son’s, Nicholas, first birthday on Saturday. ¬†My cousin did an amazing job with over the top decorations, food, and even a petting zoo for the kids.

The happy little family above: Farmer Nicholas, Jaime and Todd.

All of the decorations were so adorable and I really want to throw Grace a birthday party with this same theme…maybe in a couple of years though since I am still recovering from her birthday party a few weeks ago. ¬†She created a cute Happy Birthday banner on red card stock circles and attached the letters made from black and white polka dot card stock. ¬†Then hung them up with clothes pins! With the addition of the corn and cow balloons, straw hay bundles, corn stalks and matching tablecloths tied the theme together perfectly.

I was excited to make Nicholas’ smash cake for this big day! My cousin made the vanilla and chocolate cupcakes and added adorable barnyard themed candle toppers. ¬†She decorated the cupcake stand with black and white polka dots ribbon and red paper.

The smash cake is a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream icing.  The fence and letters are made out of fondant but the cool trick I used to create the realistic farm animals and barn is the edible cake toppers. I found images perfect for the theme and printed them on the edible frosting sheets.  Then I cut the animals and barn out with scissors and applied to the fondant to make a 3-D effect of the top and sides of the cake. The edible cake and cupcake toppers can work great on any cake, cookie or cupcake! We have a wide assortment of pre-designed collections or you can create your own toppers.

Nicholas got right into the cake and was covered with green buttercream icing!

And Grace loved her cupcake a little too much, too. This child will never turn down food!

Before the cake and cupcakes, Jaime and Todd had a petting zoo set up for all of the kids (and the adults, too). It was filled with goats, a bunny rabbit and little piggy (my favorite), sheep and chickens! ¬†Everyone had so much fun with the animals and the animals were so gentle…especially with the younger kids.

What a great party!  If you recently had a party and want to share, I would love to showcase your party ideas for our next featured party!  You can contact me through the website or email me at

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

Happy Labor Day!

The last weekend of the summer before school starts and the weather gets a little chilly. I love the summer months – walking in the grass bare foot and enjoying time at the park with my little one but definitely looking forward to some cooler weather this September. We are lucky enough to have the windows open during the fall and enjoy watching the gorgeous leaves change color.

We have a busy weekend ahead of us by celebrating a special little boy turning one tomorrow as well as the fun of draft day for fantasy football on Sunday. ¬†I’m working on a cute smash cake for the birthday boy today. ¬†It’s a barnyard/farm animal theme party and I cannot wait to celebrate with our family and friends. My cousin has worked so hard to put this together and I’ll be posting photos from the party this weekend.

I thought about making some fun foods for a little BBQ on Monday – probably just for me, my husband and daughter though… Put some steaks on the grill and enjoy a bonfire later that night.

I googled “labor day food” and found some great ideas that are perfect for a bbq. Easy to make and easy to eat.

Melon Fruit Pops

Melon Fruit Pops from Bakers Royale require only fruit, lollipop sticks and cookie cutters. Cantaloupe and watermelon are cut with a round and flower shaped cookie cutter and then put on a stick.

Naomi from Bakers Royals mentions a few tips when making these fruit pops.

  • Use metal cutters over plastic cutters. You need a thinner sharper edge that metal ones have over the plastic variations.
  • You can pre-cut the fruit into their chosen shapes, but insert the popsicle sticks prior to serving or they will become soggy.
  • Avoid overly ripe fruit, as they will get mangled when you try to cut them with a cookie cutter.
  • Fibrous fruits such as mangoes and pineapples do not work well as they require the sharp edge of a knife for cutting.
Strawberry Fruit Cups
My daughter loves fruit and her favorite are strawberries. What a great presentation! Another great idea from Bakers Royale РStrawberries filled with fruit salad! Cut the bottom of the strawberry to make it stand up and fill with other yummy fruits.
Quick and easy! These would be great at any party.
  • Use the largest strawberries you can find.
  • Your filling, your preference – chopped cherries, nectarines and a very interesting (and very good) fruit hybrid called a Mango Nectarine.
  • Hull your strawberries, then use a grapefruit knife¬†and¬†carve a hole in the center, then fill it with your preferred fruit.
  • Cut the bottoms flat to stand your Strawberry Fruit Cups upright.
These would be great for Strawberry Shortcake Cups. Instead of fruit, add small pieces of angel food cake and then add a little bit of whipped cream on top. Yum…
LadyBug Appetizers
Thanks to Taste of Home for the Ladybug Appetizer recipe. These are perfect for so many parties that use ladybugs for a theme and decor…birthday, baby shower, bridal shower, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day parties!
Here is the recipe to make these adorable ladybugs:
Maybe I should have a ladybug themed party just to use this great recipe! ¬†If you do decide to pick ladybugs for your theme…wouldn’t these edible cookie and cupcake toppers match perfectly?
Add these edible designs to the top of your frosted cupcakes or even apply them to sugar cookies as party favors! ¬†They are available at Sweet’n Treats and come in 12 different designs.
Have to get my day started…it’s a busy one! But first, need to put the little monkey down for her nap!
Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

The other day I went to Target to pick up a few things with my mom and daughter…and found this crazy hat in the dollar section display area. I can never pass this section without looking and saw this…THANKSGIVING TURKEY HAT!

(Image found online…not any of my family members. I think they would hate me if I posted their picture on here!)

How awesome is this! I LOVE it! ¬†We always have family dinners here at my house but usually Thanksgiving is one of the very few formal dinners with both families and I thought this would be amazing to make everyone wear for photos that day! My mom tried it on in the store and looked so silly…then my husband saw the turkey hat on the dining room table and tried it on. He looked even better with it on! Imagine the little kids wearing the turkey hat!

So, I feel pretty confident with my $2.50 purchase to take some great photo memories this November. I even thought about wearing it for Halloween as my costume when we take our daughter out this year for trick or treating! Two uses in one…

As long as I don’t forget where I put it for the next 2 months, we should be all set. This made me smile and wanted to share with you! Tomorrow we can talk about cupcakes but today is all about crazy turkey hats!

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

July 27th is Take Your Pants For A Walk Day!

Take Your Pants for a Walk Day is a great day to get some exercise.  This special day is well noted on the internet and calendar websites.  To be honest, I have never heard of the expression so this is a new holiday for me.

Its an easy day to celebrate. Simply go for a walk.¬†¬†Give your pants some exercise! ¬†While celebrating this holiday by walking, you will not have time to sit down and enjoy a nice lunch or even some dessert…so maybe you can bring it with you.

What’s better than food on a stick! ¬†We can start with some good old fried foods…

Fried Mash Potatoes on a Stick

French Fries on a Stick

Hot Dog Wrapped in French Fries on a Stick

and the most strange…French Fries with Bacon on a Stick

So how about dessert?

Thanks to Good Eats ‘n Sweet Treats for sharing the recipe for these amazing cheesecake pops!¬†They have chocolate dipped or cinnamon sugar dipped cake pops. I’ll have to try this for the next time my family is over for Sunday dinner.

My favorite dessert are these CakeShooters created by Sprinkles Custom Cakes.   They were featured in an article in Orlando Magazine Рsee below for the inspiration.

“Larry Bach, owner of Sprinkles Custom Cakes in Winter Park, has combined the cupcake craze and mini-dessert mania into a push pop treat made of alternating layers of cake and filling, then topped with frosting and sprinkles.

Bach got the idea for his Sprinkles CakeShooter at a confectioners‚Äô convention when he spied plastic push-up containers designed to hold Italian gelato. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs a very easy thing to put cake in there,‚ÄĚ he says, ‚Äúand kids could eat them without a fork or spoon or even a napkin‚ÄĚ‚ÄĒa real plus for his business because he‚Äôd recently lost several regular orders after some local schools banned messy cupcakes for birthday celebrations. Bach plans to patent his creation, which already has drawn a celebrity following. People magazine reported that actress Tori Spelling ordered pink-and-white CakeShooters for her daughter Stella‚Äôs second birthday celebration in California.

CakeShooters come in flavors such as yellow raspberry swirl, OMG (raspberry swirl and chocolate buttercream), Sprinkles Signature (vanilla cream and white icing), pi√Īa colada, chocolate and vanilla. Vegan and gluten-free options are available, and Bach also has made fruitcake, cheesecake and bread pudding shooters. They cost $3 each.”

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!
