Working on some super cute ideas for my daughter’s second birthday…here’s a sneak peek of her party shirt. You just need a few items to make this and it took me about 30 minutes! {Even when taking photos for the step by step tutorial} I’m not a great seamstress so this NO sew project was right up my alley!

Learn how to make one for your little one with our upcoming blog post.

PS – Can you tell I am SUPER excited for her birthday party this year. It feels like I’ve been collecting ideas for the past 6 months and I can finally start creating some of these amazing finds!

Until next time, have a SWEET day!

{SUPER SWEET} Our custom goodies are on the way to Bethenny Frankel and her daughter, Bryn.  We are very excited to share this great news with our readers!

I have loved Bethenny Frankel since her days on the Real Housewives of New York but even more now on her new “tell it how it is” talk show, Bethenny.  Her two year old daughter, Bryn, is super cute and so adorable.  A few weeks ago, I was over the moon when Sweet’n Tots and Sweet’n Treats were given the amazing opportunity to be part of a great celeb gift bag for Bethenny and her daughter.

So what do we do? We decided to make custom designed Sweet’n Tots notecards for the little cutie.  One set are flat thank you cards since she just had a birthday and another set were folded notecards with her sweet little face on the front.  We designed a custom Sweet’n Tot image that looks just like her…right down to the little pink bow in her hair 😉

We just had to share with Bethenny and Bryn some of Sweet’n Treats edible cupcake toppers, too!  We designed a cute and sassy custom collection to coordinate with the Sweet’n Tots goodies.

A BIG thank you to Casi and her team at CupcakeMAG for including Sweet’n Treats & Sweet’n Tots in this exclusive celeb gifting.

Until next time, have a {SWEET} day!

Pineapple Upside Down Cupcakes

Around this time every year, my mom ends up either baking a pineapple upside down cake or buying one from the local grocery store for my dad’s birthday.  This is his favorite cake in the entire world and he would eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner…if my mom would let him :)

A few days back, I found a recipe to make pineapple upside down CUPCAKES!  I want to try this out soon, and of course my dad will be the judge to see if this recipe beats what we traditionally have.  I like the easy presentation of the cake in the cupcake liners for this type of cake since usually becomes a little bit of a mess on the cake plate. My dad will argue with me that this is the best part of the cake!

Thanks to FamilyFun Magazine for the recipe and the step-by-step instructions to make these cute cupcakes.  They do not use cupcake liners but it is a quick step to do in the beginning while your oven is heating up.

This recipe will make 12 cupcakes – just enough for a family birthday party or dessert for every meal for my dad for a week 😉

A little tip to make this recipe even faster to make is to use yellow cake mix instead of making your batter from scratch. If you use cake mix, you can also double your recipe to make 24 cupcakes since you will more batter.

Just a note: this recipe does not require the use of the cupcake liners. Just flip the muffin pan over to release each cupcake and display on a nice dessert platter…or you can add the cupcake liners so each person can have fun unwrapping their own dessert. I’m going to use fun decorative cupcake liners to match the decor of the party.

Love the Presentation!

Thanks to CookbookManiac.com for this great photo sequence of her version of pineapple upside down cupcakes. You can find the recipe at her website.

I’m excited to try out a new recipe and if it turns out as good as they look in these photos, then I know it will be a big hit at my dad’s birthday party!

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

August 17th is National Thiftshop Day!

I’m back to finding strange holidays and I guess National Thiftshop Day is a perfect way to start 😉

“Thriftshop” is an old term for stores that sell items deeply discounted merchandise.  It’s not always the highest quality, but the price is right.  It’s all about being crafty and creative on a budget!

You know these stores better today as Goodwill and dollar stores.  I personally love both of these types of stores since you can find great items that are inexpensive as well as gently used or even new items from department stores.  The shelves are overflowing with candlestick holders, mix-n-match plates, serving dishes, and linens.

How about making your own cupcake and cake stands? Very easy to do and a trip to your local thrift shop is all that is needed!

Repurposed Cake Stand

Thank you to Crafty Nest where I found easy instructions on how to make your own repurposed dessert stands.

BEFORE

Supplies & Tools

  • plate
  • vase, pedestal bowl, candlestick, etc. (look for a wide base and a flat top)
  • epoxy (I used Elmer’s epoxy cement)
  • craft sticks or Q-tips with the cotton removed from the ends
  • scrap cardboard or paper plate
  • paper towel or rag
  • nail polish remover

1. Clean and dry both dishes well. Find the center of the plate. Mark the spot if you need to. Mix the epoxy according to the package directions, then apply a thin coat to the top of your base using a craft stick. Don’t touch the epoxy with your bare hands.

2. Turn the base upside down, and place in the center of the bottom of the plate. Work quickly but carefully because the epoxy dries fast. While the glue is still tacky, remove any excess with a paper towel and nail polish remover.

3. Place a heavy book on top to hold the base down. Let dry overnight. These cake stands are not dishwasher safe, so gently wash them by hand.

AFTER

Another idea…

How about making a cute “cupcake” gift with washcloths?

You can find a wide array of colors and patterns. Add some matching ribbon and place into a cupcake liner to make a cute cupcake gift.  You can even get creative with the presentation and place it into a small single cupcake box that you can find at your local craft stores in the baking aisle.

Perfect gift for a bridal shower, baby shower, birthday or just because.  You can even use a baby onesie instead of a washcloth for the mom-to-be! My sister made one for her gift at my baby shower. It was one of my favorite gifts that day 😉  …she is so creative!

And this is just because … it made me smile 😉

I think I may need to find this sign and hang it in my office!

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

What a weekend! We celebrated our daughter’s first birthday on Sunday and I have finally had the chance to upload some of the photos from her special day!

The party theme and decor colors were pink and lime green polka dots with a mod monkey design. Everything came together just as I imagined 😉

Welcome Signs

My biggest worry for the day was the chance of rain since we were planning on having it outside. Luckily, it didn’t rain but we ended up with a hot and humid afternoon.

First Year Photo Banner

Each month with a baby picture

I wanted to display Grace each month and see how she has changed over one year. I first thought about putting her monthly photo in small frames and putting them on a side table but came up with this idea that saved a lot of space.  Each photo was cut into a circle and the month numbers used the same design from the welcome sign. I connected each one with matching brown ribbon and hung it from one of our mantle shelves in the living room. I received so many compliments on it that day!

Cupcakes on Stand with Giant Cupcake Smash Cake

Giant Cupcake on the Cupcake Stand

For the main centerpiece on the table I made a 3 tier cupcake stand with Grace’s giant cupcake smash cake on top and standard cupcakes for the guests on the lower tiers. This cupcake stand was created with soup cans, cake rounds, wrapping paper, and ribbon! Saved a lot of money and barely took anytime to put together. I can use the stand again or I can change the color of the each tier by wrapping it in different paper! The cupcakes featured an array of toppers: edible cupcake toppers, printables and fondant decorations.

Giant Cupcake Smash Cake

As for the giant cupcake smash cake, Grace LOVED it! I used the giant cupcake pan that bakes the cake in 2 separate pieces and then you put them together with frosting. I originally was going to cover the bottom with fondant but to be honest…ran out of time so I had to think of something quick and easier to make the base of the cupcake look clean. So I took some white chocolate chips, melted them in the microwave and added green candy dye. I took the cake pan to use as a mold and coated the cupcake bottom section with 2 layers of chocolate …let it harden in the refrigerator for 30 minutes and popped it out. I had to shave down the actual cake bottom to fit into the chocolate mold. Then I added the pink frosting with some chocolate sprinkles!

…and the finished giant cupcake smash cake!

Birthday Girl with Her Cake!
