Just watched the latest episode of Top Chef Just Desserts (I think I am addicted to any cooking show…just ask my husband). The challenge was to make their dessert look like an iconic food from a country. The contestants did beef wellington, manicotti, and even a cuban sandwich.

This morning I was flipping through a magazine and found these cute cherry pie look-a-like cupcakes and thought this would be the perfect disguised dessert to make to be like a Top Chef Just Dessert contestant.

“Sweet As Pie” Cherry Pie Look-a-Like Cupcakes

The recipe looks easy too! You basically make your standard cupcakes and use red M&Ms as the cherries for the pie and then tint a little bit of your frosting to match the color of the pie crust. Add a few final touches and your plain cupcakes just turned into a work of art!

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

My cousin is putting together her son’s first birthday party this September and she picked out the Barnyard Farm theme! I love the decor and there are so many great ideas she has already thought of to make this party so amazing.

She is going to make cupcakes with cute barnyard animal toppers to display on a cupcake stand and I’m going to make his “smash” cake to be on the top tier. I’ve been experimenting with different smaller cakes lately since my daughter’s birthday was just a week ago but found some very cute ideas for the inspiration.

John Deere Tractor Cupcake Toppers

How cute are these toppers made out of fondant to look like a John Deere tractor!

Barnyard Cupcake Stand

What a cute display of cupcakes and I love the smash cake.  It may be out of my league to make a cake like that but definitely inspiration!

…and another cute display!

This pulls the whole theme together! With the hay scattered around and the barnyard animal toppers, this looks too good to eat!

And my favorite smash cake idea…

So cute! Child’s name is around the bottom created with fondant and the frosting is simply piped with the grass tip. Add the chicken cake topper and this is perfect for a little one year old to dig right into for their birthday cake!

So many barnyard ideas but need to brainstorm a little more to find the perfect cake for my cousin!

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

July 26th is All or Nothing Day!

Happy All or Nothing DayHow will your day go? Will you have it all….or nothing. When thinking of what All or Nothing Day really means it is a day of extremes! Go Big or Go Home!

If you’re a gambler, it’s a day to go for broke. A little drastic day, perhaps!

This is one extreme gambling cake!  Look at all of that detail.  I would hate to be the person cut and serve at the party…it’s too beautiful to eat!

Have you ever googled…”extreme cakes”?

Well, I did this morning to find interesting cakes and cupcake images for this holiday.  Did you know the world’s largest cake weighs 15,032 pounds???  I wonder how long it took to make  …and decorate?

What about an over the top wedding cake?

Maybe a full size replica of the bride…

There is even a slideshow on CNN portraying thiscake on the day of the wedding!  There’s definitely no grey area in how you spend this day.

One of my favorite shows on the Food Network is Food Network Challenge and by far my favorite pastry chef and cake decorator is Bronwen Weber. Her cakes are amazing and truly an inspiration when I bake. The show always has an extreme twist thrown in…definitely an all or nothing competition.

We hope you have it all on All or Nothing Day, and every day.

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

July 22nd is Hammock Day!

…ummmm, ok?

Summer is in full swing! It’s time to slow down and relax on a hammock. Maybe not today though since it is going to be 102 degrees in NJ! Maybe on a Caribbean beach instead!

I would LOVE this hammock in my backyard!

Hammock Day is appropriately celebrated right in the middle of the dog days of summer (July 3 though August 11th).

People celebrate Hammock Day by spending as much time relaxing on it as possible. Getting out of your hammock to get a snack, or your favorite summer beverage is okay. But, it is not a day for work. Cutting the lawn is forbidden on this day.

There are not many cakes or cupcakes that are inspired by a hammock…

…so I had to get creative and put a little twist on today’s holiday! When I’m in my hammock in the backyard, I like listening to music and having a drink (or two) to relax. I found some interesting and yummy cupcakes infused with alcohol that remind me of those drinks I enjoy in the hammock.

Pina Colada, Mojitos or maybe a Margarita cupcake?

Simple Yet So Yummy

I found a great recipe for Margarita cupcakes infused with Patrón Silver tequila. Great for your next party or making a batch to share with a few girlfriends on a Friday night. Thanks to Brown Eyed Baker for sharing the recipe.

Margarita Cupcakes – Love the Presentation!

These would be perfect at your next “Just the Girls” Party! Arrange a few of the cupcakes in the margarita glasses and then display the rest on a cupcake stand. Add some REAL margaritas, chips ‘n salsa to your table and you’re all set!

In case, you’re not sure how to make a margarita, here’s a simple recipe that uses orange juice to cut a little bit of the tartness. Sounds yummy!

Happy Hammock Day and I’m going to be enjoying my cupcakes and drinks from inside today!

Until tomorrow, have a sweet day!

Today is the first day of the new blog and it’s NATIONAL CAVIAR DAY!

Could it get any more bizarre for my first “holiday” to blog about? Caviar is salted fish eggs, or “roe”. It is considered a delicacy. There’s red caviar and black caviar, along with other colors. Black is considered the best. Perhaps you should do a taste test.

When I think of caviar, I think of sushi. I could eat sushi any day of the week and any time of the day: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

So, this photo looks like what you would normally get when you eat at a sushi restaurant, right? WRONG! It is actually cupcakes! Yes, cupcakes. I am so amazed by the detail work for each one.

I found a few other sushi with caviar treats…

You can tell that these are cupcakes but what a great idea! Or maybe a sushi cake?

Happy National Caviar Day! Celebrate this national holiday with some sushi for lunch today.
